2020 Edmonton, Alberta grad Taylor is the blog’s feature today!

Photographing anyone during the monumental time in their lives of graduating from high school and starting the next chapter means so much to me, but when it’s family it kinda becomes even more significant.

This was my first session back after the studio (and the world) being shut down for a few months at the beginning of the year. And it was so good to once again share some joy.

We shot the session at a few locations around Jarvis Bay at Sylvan Lake and even managed to catch the sunset over the water. Along with Rosie, the cutest pup ever.

The class of 2020 had so many things taken away from them last year. Which made these sessions even more special, in that it was something that we could still do to celebrate them.

RED DEER PHOTOGRAPHER . FAMILY STUDIO SESSION

Many things may have been taken away this year, but not our choice for finding joy and fun. Confetti and donuts are still to be found. Dancing and music are still here. And in keeping with what my Gram used to remind me, don't forget to have some fun.

This session was held just outside of Red Deer, at the studio in Sylvan Lake, Alberta. Our goal was to have no other distractions in the images and to focus on fun and joy…. so we chose a fun modern backdrop kept it casual. While using mostly natural light, we used a little bounce flash for fill to add a bit of contrast while keeping that background clean.

So, I will continue to remind you…when planning your sessions, rather than starting with locations and wardrobe, ask yourself what emotions you want to bring out in your photographs. Soulful and serious, quiet and reflective, or joy and laughter. And then get creative and photograph that :).

RED DEER FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER . OUTDOOR SESSION

Can we first just talk about this incredible light we had for this family session? This doesn’t always happen, and when you choose an outdoor photo session, you can never have a guarantee on the weather. So when the stars align and we are lucky to have a beautiful night like this, it’s something to celebrate!

This family session was from last fall and photographed (at one of my favourite locations) here in Sylvan Lake, just outside of Red Deer, Alberta. Between a mix of lifestyle and posed images, I loved how this session turned out.

2018 Red Deer, Alberta grad Mandi is on the blog today!

Mandi had a combination session held indoors at the studio in Sylvan Lake, Alberta along with two casual outfits outdoors at Jarvis Bay. Her session was such a great combination. And again I love the pop of red in her shirt outdoors against the green grass!
